Treasury of the Lisbon Cathedral
Local name: Tesouro da Sé de Lisboa
The treasury of the Se Cathedral is located on the second floor of the gallery above the aisles. Liturgical equipment and vestments, sacred art works and liturgical books were collected here. The museum offers a magnificent view of the nave and the presbytery of the cathedral.
The treasury is small, but the exhibits exhibited are works of the highest quality. The oldest items come from the Middle Ages. Many of them were handed over to the cathedral after the great earthquake of 1755, when most of Lisbon's churches were shattered.
The robes, dishes and books gathered here are characterized by a wealth of decorations. They are also usually gold-plated and decorated with precious stones. A valuable relic is also kept here, as well as the headgear of Saint Vincent, one of the city's patrons.
