Żmigród park tower

Local name: Baszta parkowa Żmigród

The four-sided, four-storey defensive tower was built in 1560 and is the oldest building that has survived to this day and is part of the palace and park complex in Żmigród. Currently, it houses a tourist information point. In turn, the upper levels hide a conference room and a knight's hall with space for temporary exhibitions. Above them, there is an apartment that can be rented to spend the night in the tower, as well as a public viewing terrace.

As a curiosity, it should be mentioned that until 1945 the palace tower housed an archive, which was one of the largest private collections of documents in Silesia.

Above the entrance to the tower, there is a plaque with the Kurzbach family coat of arms, commemorating its construction. There is also a plaque here commemorating the signing of the so-called Trachenberg or Żmigród Protocol in July 1813.
