Under the Forge Hammer is a live museum that presents the traditions and culture of Podhale highlanders. Old furniture, home furnishings, folk costumes, as well as natural exhibits and items related to the history of tourism in the Tatras have been collected at exhibitions. During the tour, visitors can try to whip the butter by themselves, learn about traditional home insulating methods or carpentry.
The Museum Under the Forge Hammer is located in the centre of Zakopane, in a house in the Zakopane style. Exhibitions refer to nature, history, ethnography, and culture of Podhale. They are guided by guides dressed up according to the discussed topic, for example forester talks about nature, while a tourist from the early 20th century tells about the history of tourism. Besides these attractions, in the museum it is possible to meet real folk artists or listen to highlander music performed live by a local band.In the Museum are collected geological specimens, mining and metallurgical tools that show the history of Zakopane as an industrial centre. There is also a great collection of sculptures and folk paintings, including pictures made on glass.Less
