The oldest regional museums in Poland include the Tatra Museum for them. Dr Tytus Chałubiński in Zakopane. It was opened in 1889 and is now subject to 11 separate divisions, of which 7 are located in Zakopane. The rich collections of the museum include exhibits of four categories: works of art, ethnography, flora and rock and minerals.

The Tatra Museum is divided into seven thematic sections: Art, Ethnography, Natural History, Preservation of Mobile Monuments, Monuments Protection, Historical and Educational Library and Archives from the Museum of Kornel Makuszynski, a writer living in Zakopane.

Museum exhibitions include artwork, painting, sculpture and typical folk painting on glass. Ethnographic exhibits include clothing, decorative arts and everyday objects of inhabitants of Podhale, Orava and Spiš. The installations also show the natural qualities of the Tatras - examples of rocks and minerals, as well as the layout of the Tatra vegetation.
