The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Zakopane is a sacral institution which is comprised of the church dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, a special altar, and a chapel. A building of the sanctuary had began with the construction of the church in the 1990s - it was built in connection to the salvage of Pope John Paul II after an assasination attempt on his life.
The Marian sanctuary in Zakopane is one of the most often visited places of Catholic cult in Poland. The buildings being part of the sanctuary blend in perfectly with the local architecture. The church, consecrated by John Paul II in person, is the main part of the sanctuary. The area of the sanctuary includes the Fatima Park and objects built in there as well. One of them is the altar at which John Paul II has celebrated a mass during one of his visits to his homeland. Nearby the altar stands a monument that shows the Polish Pope together with his secretary - Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. In the park there is also a chapel dedicated to John Paul II.Less
