19th century cemetery, the oldest in Zakopane. The name comes from Jan Pęksa - a land donor. The name Brzyz means a cliff above the stream. The cemetery gate was designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz. In 1931 the cemetery was entered in the register of monuments and was given the name of the Meritorious Cemetery. From that time, only people distinguished for the Tatra and Podhale were buried there. Ashes lie here, among others Kornel Makuszyński and Beata Obertyńska.
