The Kornel Makuszyński Museum is located in Zakopane in the brick, two-storey Villa "Opolanka". It is a four-room flat where Makuszyński family had lived. There is a collection of subsequent editions of the writer's books, manuscripts, letters, and paintings by famous painters such as Julian Fałat, Stanisław Wyspiański and Włodzimierz Jarocki.
Kornel Makuszyński and his wife Janina had been visiting Zakopane many times during the interwar period. At that time, they had lived in the Villa Opolanka. After the World War II, they settled permanently in the Villa, occupying a four-room flat. In 1966, the writer's widow intended the flat to become a biographical museum. In the furniture of the apartment there are many pre-war equipment in the Biedermeier style. Unfortunately, most of the Makuszyński's art collections were destroyed in his Warsaw apartment during the war. Several paintings of artists whom Kornel Makuszyński was friends with have been preserved. In the museum visitors can also see personal memorabilia, sketches of illustrations for the writer's books, and rich correspondence from readers.Less
