Parish church

Local name: Kościół farny

The parish church in Wschowa is a Baroque building with Gothic features. Its construction took place in the 18th century and was supervised by Pompeo Ferrari. The Gothic polygonal tower with a Baroque tented roof is adjoined to its basilica structure. It houses the painting depicting Wschowa in the 18th century.

The first Gothic church in Wschowa was built in the 14th century. It didn't survive to this day because of numerous wars and fires. In the 18th century, famous Italian architect Pompeo Ferrari built the three-nave basilica next to the tower situated in the city's defensive fortifications.

The church's decor comes from the 18th century. It consists of, among others, the main altar with the painting of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary by Szymon Czechowicz and side altars. There is also the plaque dedicated to local parson Józef Rogaliński who, at the end of the 18th century, wrote the first Polish physics textbook.
