Church St. Clement

Local name: Kościół pw. św. Klemensa

The third parish church was built in Wieliczka. Inside, there are many historic altars and works of sacred art. The most valuable of them - even from the 15th century - are kept in the church treasury. The patron of the church is St. Clement - Pope, protector of miners.

The temple was built in the early 19th century in the Josephine style. Previously, there were older churches - wooden and brick - in its place. The remains of the second one is the preserved tomb chapel of the Morsztyn family, decorated with stucco by the Italian artist Baltazar Fontana. Over the years, the architecture of the temple has been changed many times.

Next to the church, there is a belfry funded by King Jan III Sobieski as a thanksgiving for the victory over the Turks. In the years 2001 - 2012 a thorough renovation of the church was carried out, including the restoration of the polychrome and the façade.
