Weaving Craft Museum is located in the monumental, 19th-century town hall. The facility is mostly dedicated to the history of weaving and textile industry in the area of Turek. There is also the exhibition of Sorbian ceramics and the archeological exposition. What is more, the facility organizes temporary exhibitions, thematical workshops, and art lessons.
The most important exhibition in the museum is "Traditional weaving and textile manufacturing in Turek and the area" which displays, among others, the pennant of Weaver Association from 1823, weaving counters from the 19th century, guild books, and archival photographs of the first textile factory founded in 1908. The archeological exhibition "Animals of Quaternary Period" presents tusks and bones of mammoths while the exposition "Sorbian cemetery" displays the collection of ceramics: urns, bowls, mugs, and jugs. The development of Turek in the 19th century was owed to weaving settlers from Czech and Saxony. It was then when two large fabric factories were founded. The modern textile manufactory was built already in 1908. Since that time, buildings of the textile industry became a permanent part of the city's landscape.Less
