Uniejów Castle

Local name: Zamek w Uniejowie

The Archbishop's Castle of Gniezno is entirely made of stone, surrounded by walls and tower of the historic building. The historic chapel and the entrance to the observation deck on the top of the tower are at your disposal. It is possible to stay in medieval apartments or in historic rooms. In the vicinity of the Castle you can visit a large landscaped park.

This residence was established in the second half of the 14th century as a shrine for the church dignitaries. Archbishop Gniezdzieński, Jarosław Bogoria, who was a co-worker of King Casimir the Great, initiated the creation of the first buildings of the palace complex. It was supposed to supplement Kazimierz's border fortresses. The castle survived the "Swedish Flood", Teutonic invasion and bombing during World War II.

During this period in Uniejów castle there were conventions of clergy, hidden treasures and relics here during the thirteen-year war and housed prison for the ignorant and disobedient priests.
