The Dąmbski Palace in Toruń is a beautiful baroque residence in the vicinity of the Sailing Gate, which today is the seat of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Impresario Musical Theater, which performs performances for children and adults, as well as the Proscenium art gallery.
The building is distinguished by a magnificent, stucco façade covered with floral motifs, which was the inspiration for the decoration of the Tenement Under the Star. It was also the beginning of a new era in this area, as a decoration technique imported from Italy and used only in Toruń.The building was built in 1693 on the site of earlier Gothic residential houses, and the initiator of the investment was one of the most influential people of that period - Bishop of Kujawy Stanisław Dąmbski. The bishop's family lived in the palace until the end of the 18th century. In the next century, after the sale of the residence to a Prussian official, the facility served as a hotel, an officer's casino, a branch of the State Police, and the Department of Fine Arts.Less
