Bartosz Glowacki Monument
Local name: Pomnik Bartosza Głowackiego
The Bartosz Głowacki Monument is the first peasant monument in Poland. Głowacki, who became the symbol of Tarnobrzeg (the city's anthem is based on the song "Bartosz, Bartosz"), however, was not connected with the city. He was a Polish scytheman who, during the Kościuszko Uprising, became famous for capturing a Russian cannon by extinguishing the fuse with a hat. He was appointed a ensign for his achievement and received a surname (previously he was called Wojciech Bartosz).
The monument was erected thanks to the generosity of the Tarnobrzeg community in 1904 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Kościuszko Uprising. The construction of the monument coincided with the reconstruction of the Tarnobrzeg market after the fire. The monument construction committee was appointed by Walerian Wryk. The author of the monument's design and its contractor is the Kraków sculptor Władysław Korpala.
As part of the program of unveiling the monument, an outdoor staging of the Battle of Racławice was organized.
