Town Hall in Szprotawa

Local name: Ratusz w Szprotawie

The Town Hall in Szprotawa distinguishes an unusual, like a structure of this type, with two towers - Renaissance and neoclassical. Equipped with high windows and a beautiful balcony, the hotel features a beautifully decorated picture room with richly decorated ceilings. The building is still used by the city authorities, so it is only accessible from the outside.

The historic building dates back to the 13th century, since the earliest mention of the municipality building dates back to that period. In the present construction still preserved fragments of the first stone walls, however, an object that we can admire until today was created in the 16th century. Then the first of the towers - the Renaissance. The second was founded in the first half of the 17th century. The construction of the towers involves interesting stories. Eastern, rebuilt after the 30-year war, collapsed the day after the opening. The second tower is a curve and continues to deviate from the vertical. In her interior was a prison cell and inscriptions on the walls left by the criminals held here.

The town hall has been rebuilt several times, but its original premises preserve the ancient tiled stove with signs of the zodiac and old arched vaults, which can now be seen in the knight's hall on the ground floor. Historical monuments also include a clock mechanism on one of the towers.
