Museum of the Printing and Paper Industry
Local name: Muzeum Sztuki Drukarskiej i Papiernictwa
The Museum of Print and Paper Art in Suprasl is a unique place where you can learn the history and secrets of paper production and printing, and also admire the old bookbinding and printing machinery. An additional attraction awaiting the visitors is the possibility of creating a sheet of paper or printing a page using the Gutenberg machine.
The museum is located in the supra-monastery. It is not accidental that this place was chosen for the creation of this facility. In 1695, the Basilian fathers established a printing house here, and after fifteen years a paper mill was built on the river Suprasl.
The exhibitions were arranged in two halls. They can be admired in the various machines used in printing, the oldest of which dates back to the mid 18th century. Museum workers present visitors with a variety of printing techniques: copperplate, lithography or offset printing.
One of the most interesting attractions is hand-made paper sheets, using a sieve that draws the slurry and then filtered and dried. In addition, visitors can book bookmarks or print a page using a replica of a fifteenth-century printing press.
