The Museum of Icons in Supraśl as the first in Poland presents the sacral art of the Orthodox Church in form of interactive exhibition. It is located in the building of the former Archimandrite Palace in the area of Basilian monks monastery.
The exposition consists of over 300 icons depicting Christ, Mother of God, saints, and also frescos and sacral items. The oldest exhibits come from the 18th century, however, most of them are from the 19th and 20th centuries, taken from smugglers.The museum's interior consists of nine halls, each dedicated to a different type of room. Visitors can also visit the hermitage, the monk's cell with monastic engrossed in making icons, and the old hut with the handmade altar and window characteristic for Supraśl's houses. The exposition is complemented by voices of praying monks which can be heard in some halls.Visitors can also try to make their own icon and watch movies on the subject of making these pieces of art.Less
