Stańczyki Railway Viaducts

Local name: Mosty w Stańczykach

The Railway Viaducts in Stańczyki are one of the tallest bridges in Poland. They have 36m in height and 200m in length. Stanisław Tym used them in his movie "Ryś". The pillars were decorated with parts inspired by Roman aqueducts in Pont du Gard and that's why they are called Aqueducts of Romincka Forest. In the past, they were included in the 31-kilometer railway line from Gołdap to Żytkiejmy which is closed today.

The viaducts consist of five reinforced concrete spans with even 15-meter arches. This beautiful area is also called Mazury Garbate (Humpbacked Masuria) because of the hilly terrain. The paradisiac landscape contains slopes overgrown with spruces, clear lakes, and rivers flowing through valleys. The Railway Viaducts in Stańczyki are considered one of the most beautiful and best places for bungee and swing jumps. Unfortunately, the current technical condition doesn't allow jumping.

The Railway Viaducts in Stańczyki used to be a part of the railway line from Chojnice to Olita which construction started shortly before World War I. In 1945 Red Army dismantled it during the retreat. Since that time, the railway tracks remain in that state.
