The castle in Siewierz was built in the fourteenth century by the Bytom princes. It was built on an artificially created island. In the fifteenth century, it was owned by Kraków bishops and the Siewierz princes. The ruins of the castle are surrounded by walls, a gate tower and a reconstructed barbican. The castle hosts cultural and entertainment events.
In 1655, the castle was robbed and burned by the Swedish army. The castle was entered in the register of monuments with with the indication of a permanent ruin.The castle as one of the two in Poland has a bascule bridge (the second bascule bridge is at the Malbork castle). Its mechanism is activated only for special occasions.From the 17th century, at the castle operated the "Siewierz Tribunal", famous for frequently sentencing to death the prisoners imprisoned in the fortress.
