Józef I. Kraszewski Museum

Local name: Muzeum Józefa I. Kraszewskiego

The Kraszewski Museum in Romanów is housed in a historic manor where the writer grew up in the care of his grandparents. The permanent exhibition presented here documents the history of his life and work, both in the field of literature and interest in history, archeology, music, painting and collecting.

In addition to souvenirs about the life and work of the author of Old Fairy Tale, the museum also invites to temporary exhibitions inspired by Kraszewski's life and achievements. While in the manor, it is worth visiting the park that surrounds it, in which there is a classical, stone court chapel in the shape of a rotunda. An Italian-style park from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries is also attractive.

The interior of the manor house was arranged in the atmosphere that prevailed in it during Kraszewski's youth. The current state of the interior is the result of many years of accumulating furniture and equipment, still remaining at the stage of completing the collection. Original furniture from the Romanesque court has not survived, which is why those on display are replicas intended to reproduce a fairly faithful character of the court interior of the home of a middle-class gentry family.
