The oldest surviving building in Piła is the house where Stanisław Staszic was born. Today, a small house with a half-timbered facade houses the Stanisław Staszic Museum, which documents the figure of a scientist, writer and social worker and his presence in the minds of Poles.
The Staszic family was associated with Piła from around the 17th century. In the mid-18th century, Wawrzyniec, father of Stanisław, held the office of mayor. He occupied a small house and outbuildings surrounding it. Only the residential building has survived to this day. In all likelihood, it was here in 1755 that Stanisław Staszic was born.
Staszic House is a rectangular building covered with a sloping roof made of red tiles. It was originally built in the half-timbered technique. Today, the half-timbered facade is just an imitation. The arrangement of boards was made on masonry and plaster. There is a museum in the house. His collection includes documents, souvenirs, everyday objects from various periods of Stanisław Staszic's life. The second exhibition is devoted to the presence of Staszic in social and scientific life in Poland.
