The church of St. Anthony of Padua in Pila is one of the most interesting avant-garde sacral buildings in Wielkopolska. Modernist temple was created during the interwar period and is a creative transformation of the simplicity of Romanesque style in modern times for the means of expression.
The church was built between 1928 and 1930. Its designer was German architect Hans Hekkomer. It was a vanguard and very modern building for those times. She referred to the realization of Germanes, for whom simple Romanesque churches with geometric shapes have become the inspiration.
The church consists of a long main aisle, illuminated by tiny windows and two side aisles, from the base to the vaulted, oblong, narrow, arched windows. Over the chancel there is a small glazed dome. On the entrance side was added a massive, rectangular tower with a flat roof. The entrance to the temple leads through a high portico consisting of three arches connected by pillars.
The interior of the temple is very simple. The sculpture of the Crucified Christ hanging over the altar is dominated by the altar. The walls are decorated with scenes of the Passion of the Lord made in the direction of naive painting.
