Pelplin Cathedral

The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Pelplin is a Gothic church. The temple has historic decorations from the 15th - 18th centuries, incl. 23 altars with paintings, including a 25-meter high altar, a pulpit, side organs with an organ prospectus and a set of stalls. The cathedral also has relics of St. John Paul II.

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Pelplin was originally the main temple of the former Cistercian monastery complex. Apart from the cathedral, some of the monastic buildings around the close have survived from the former monastery complex. From 1824, the temple is the seat of the Bishop of Pelplinski.

23 historic altars are located at inter-nave pillars and in aisles. Twenty of them come from the 17th and 18th centuries, two are neo-Gothic, and one post-Vatican II from 1971. Nineteen of them are wooden, two are marble and two stucco. They are all decorated with antique paintings.
