The Diocesan Museum in Pelplin present collections of Gothic sacral art from the former Diocese of Chełmno. There are, among others, old prints, manuscripts, and paintings. Especially worthy of attention is the Gutenberg Bible from the Franciscan monastery in Lubawa, Gothic altars, and liturgic robes such as chasubles and dalmatics.
The museum was established in 1928 in the bishop's palace by the then Bishop of Chełmno - Stanisław Okoniewski. The present building was constructed and made fit into the curia complex in 1988.Among the exhibits, it is worth to take a look at the collection of Gothic paintings and altars from churches in Toruń including the altar with the polyptych from the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and late-Gothic paintings "Flagellation" and "The Descent from the Cross" from St. John's Church.Less
