African Museum in Olkusz consists of one of the largest collections dedicated to the culture and art of Africa in the country. It presents rich collections related to the Tuareg and Dogon people - two tribes inhabiting West Africa. The exhibitions also display African musical instruments, cult masks, house equipment, tools, and many pieces of art by African artists.
Most of the items come from donations. The collection was originated by Bogdan and Bożena Szczygieł who donated their African treasures. Another generous gift was presented by Anna Kulbarska and her husband Leon Kubarski, pilot. The museum's collection largely includes ivory wares, necklaces, sculptures, little heads with real hair, textiles, embroidery, and pipes. The rest of the exposition is dedicated to the everyday life of African people.Less
