Local name: Twierdza Modlin
The beautifully situated Modlin Fortress is a witness to the great history and a unique fortification monument on a European scale. This powerful and well-preserved structure consists of citadels, fortified forewords and two rings of forts. You can visit alone or with a guide who will show places inaccessible to individual tourists. An additional attraction is the lookout tower and underground passages. A wide range of sightseeing programs has been prepared, e.g. for schools, families, companies and enthusiasts of thrills.
Modlin's outstanding defensive qualities have already been appreciated by the Swedish king Karol Gustaw, who founded a defensive camp here. The decision to build the Fortress was made in 1806 by Napoleon himself, seeking to expand his influence in eastern Europe. Over the years, the fortress was expanded and modernized. The fortress took part in two world wars. Under Russian rule it was renamed Novogieorgiewsk.
