The B type bunker was built by Germans in 1939. It is Regelbau 105 type shelter, the only in such good condition. These constructions were characterized by a 2-meter thick ceiling and reinforced concrete walls. The bunker is well-lit thanks to which its features can be easily spotted: traces of suspended beds for staff, original inscriptions concerning safety and maintenance (all in German) and also embrasures. The building is located in Martiany in Warmia and Masuria between the cities of Giżycko and Kętrzyn.
The ruins of buildings and remains of brick fundaments of barracks assigned to the staff maintaining German anti-aircraft guns can be found on almost every hillock in Martiany. All of them were part of the defensive complex "Wolf's Lair". The ruins of two others bunkers, which were protected by Regelbau 105, are located nearby.Until the 1960s, the bunker was enclosed with a wooden barn. Since that time, it is situated on private property. His owner charges a symbolic fee for entering the courtyard.Less
