The Neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption of Mary is located on the church square of the Old Town in Łódź. It stands in the place of the first Catholic temple of this city. The sacral building was built in the years 1888-1897. The construction was financed by the donations of Łódź manufacturers, protestants, as well as Jewish families, and inhabitants of the city of Łódź. Nowadays, the church is the headquarters of the parish of the Assumption of Mary.
During World War II, the Nazis transformed the sacral object into a storehouse of items plundered from Jews murdered in extermination camps. The facility was in the Łódź ghetto. In 1942, a feathers and down sorting department was established in the church. In 2011, the repair and renovation works of the presbytery facade and transept were carried out under the supervision of the Provincial and Municipal Monument Conservator.Less
