Babia Góra - 1725 m

Local name: Babia Góra - 1725 m n.p.m.

Babia Góra is the most popular mountain range in the Żywiec Beskids. The highest peak of the massif is "Diablak", 1725 meters above sea level. It is the highest peak of the entire Western Beskids. There are many legends around Babia Góra, both as to the name and its origin.

The most frequently repeated legend says that Babia Góra was made of stones spilled by a giant in front of the house. Another, almost equally popular, says that she is the lover of one of the robbers who petrified when she saw her dead loved one.

There are many rare plants in Poland in the area. In the Babia Góra massif there is the Babiogórski National Park, inscribed by UNESCO on the list of world biosphere reserves. There are also numerous landslide lakes - Mokry Stawek, Czarne Oko and many others.

Four hiking trails run through Babia Góra - two red, one green and one yellow. There are also 3 hostels.
