The main artillery fort "Łętownia" is one of the very well preserved elements of the outer ring of the Przemyśl Fortress. His task was to defend the San Valley and road to Dynów. The facility is located on the northern section of the Black Fortress Trail and the Green Bicycle Route.
You can see here, among others neck barracks, main shelter, ambulance shelters and postholes, i.e. hidden passages between battle stations. During World War II, the Gestapo carried out executions of Poles and Jews in the fort, which commemorates the obelisk built nearby. The hill overlooks the San Valley.
Already in 1854-1855 an artillery earthwork was established here. On its base, in the years 1881-1882 a single-shaft fort designed by general Anton Werner was erected. In the years 1892-1900 the building was modernized and transformed into a centered, armored, main fort. In March 1915, before surrendering the besieged fortress, the fort was partially blown up. In the interwar years, artillery ammunition was stored here. After the war, it served as a wine store.
For several years in the barracks of the fort visitors could see a unique exhibition dedicated to the Przemyśl Fortress.
