Local name: Punkt widokowy na wieży Mariackiej

Located inside: St. Mary's Basilica

The facade of St. Mary's Tower consists of two slim towers. The taller one, called Hejnalica or Trumpet Call Tower, has 82 m in height. It's opened to the public. St. Mary's Trumpet Call, one of the hallmarks of the city, is played every hour at the height of 52 m. Tourist not only can watch trumpeter during his work but also admire the gorgeous panorama from here. It's the highest observation point in this part of the city.

Hejnalica served as a city watchtower since the Middle Ages. The tradition of playing St. Mary's Trumpet Call has over 600 years. In the past, it warned against enemy or fire. According to the legend, a guard who spotted Tatar horde and started playing in order to warn the city was killed by Tatar's arrow. It is why St. Mary's Trumpet Call suddenly stops.

Trumpet Call Tower is built on a square plan which moves into an octagon in the upper part. It is topped by Gothic tented roof from 1478. In 1666, the gilded crown of 2,4 m in diameter and 1,3 of height was mounted on it. There is also the clock bell from 1530.
