The Central Square named after Ronald Reagan (originally Central Square) in Nowa Huta is not only the focal point of this district, but also its symbol. The square on three sides is surrounded by monumental buildings, which (just like the square itself) are a perfect example of the socialist realist architecture of the 1950s. On the square there is the Solidarity Monument, moved here from the Tadeusz Sendzimir Steelworks in 2005. It has the form of a steel letter V, a gesture of victory.
In 2004, the square was renovated, which restored its appearance from the 1950s. At that time, the candelabrum lamps characteristic of this square were restored. At the same time, the name of the square was changed, adding to it the patron, Ronald Reagan. The original project assumed that next to the square a theater will be built with a lake behind it, but the plan has been abandoned rather quickly. Instead of the theater, the Nowa Huta Cultural Center was established.Less
