The Piwnica pod Baranami (the Cellar under the Rams) is the most famous Polish cabaret founded in 1956 in the cellars of the Pod Baranami palace by Piotr Skrzynecki and several students of Kraków's universities. There is a cult café with a wide selection of coffees, beers, chocolates and drinks, but the main attraction for tourists are the events taking place at Piwnica. Concerts, cabaret shows, meetings with artists and exhibitions make this place one of the most important on the cultural map of Krakow.
In Piwnica, many outstanding Polish artists began and developed their careers. It is enough to mention Bronisław Chromy, Ewa Demarczyk, Marek Grechuta, Agnieszka Osiecka, Jacek Wójcicki, Grzegorz Turnau, Zbigniew Preisner or Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. Jacek Kaczmarski also had his “cellar” episode. The Piwnica pod Baranami is also famous for ostentatious parties and numerous artistic events. Every year are celebrated next anniversaries of the birth of the cabaret and the birthday of Piotr Skrzynecki, which after his death began to be celebrated in the form of concerts at the Juliusz Słowacki Theater.Less
