Hipolit House in Kraków is located nearby St. Mary's Church. It's a Renaissance tenement house with the facade decorated with sgraffito. A department of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków operates here. It presents the exhibition dedicated to the life of inhabitants of Kraków throughout history. The re-created rooms from different times can be admired inside.
The tenement house was built in the 14th century. Since the 17th century, it was a property of the Italian Hipolit Family. The museum occupies two floors of the building. Rooms are furnished with original furniture and trinkets. The first floor includes the Baroque office with stucco decorations by Baltazar Fontana, the Rococo bedroom decorated with floor motives and painted in pastel colors. It also consists of the office of the collector from the 18th century - a museum within a museum with paintings and items acquired during journeys. The second floor is occupied by the 19th-century-style rooms. It presents the old-fashioned, filled with trinkets, "grandma's room", and the bright, spacious maiden bedroom. The double bedroom and center of each house - dining room - can also be explored.Less
