Windmill

Local name: Wiatrak

Historic wooden windmill built at the beginning of the 20th century. Its original structure is picturesquely integrated into the area of Mięćmierz - the former rafting settlement, today part of Kazimierz Dolny. The area near the windmill offers a view of the Vistula River gorge and the Janowiec Castle.

The windmill has a trestle structure - the most commonly used in the past in Poland. It has a shingled roof and carved decorations. In the past, it was possible to rotate the windmill depending on the direction of the wind, today it is stopped.

The structure was originally erected in the village of Osiny, from where it was moved to Mięćmierz in 1975, embedding it on the Vistula escarpment. For several years, the windmill served a residential function - stairs were also added to it. It has been listed as a historical monument since 1986.
