The history of the castle in Janowiec dates back to the sixteenth century, and the initiator of its construction and the first owner was the Grand Hetman of the Crown, Mikołaj Firlej. Later, the residence belonged to the Tarło and Lubomirski families. The latter inherited the castle completely destroyed after the Swedish Deluge and rebuilt it to measure the seats of kings. The building was admired by king August II the Strong himself, in whose honor a feast was organized in the castle. The last private owner, Mr. Leon Kozłowski, donated the object to the Nadwiślańskie Museum in Kazimierz Dolny in 1975 .The castle has its own legend about the Black Lady, which is supposedly the ghost of Helena Lubomirska, unhappily in love with a poor subject. As a punishment, the girl was closed for six months in the castle chamber, which was supposed to cure her love. Unfortunately, love turned out to be stronger and the young heiress jumped out of the window.Less
