Franciszek Treder Kashubian Museum collects items related to the region and the ethnical group of Kashubia. The exposition is presented in seven halls: Agriculture, Household, Fishing, Pottery, Kashubian traditions and culture, Folk art, and Bride's dowry.
The origins of the museum date back to 1920 when it was located in the building of the old hospital in Kartuzy. Later, it was moved to the house of Hinica. The first exhibition, dedicated to folk art, was organized by Franciszek Treder in Borzestowo in 1932. The second one was prepared by Franciszka Majkowska in the Kashubian Manor at the end of the 1930s. The museum was officially opened in 1947.The collection consists of, among others, canoes for fishing, two-hand hoe-ploughs, ard ploughs, cultivators, rollers, accessories of "gwiżdże" - Christmas masqueraders. A workshop of folk embroidery operated here in the past.Less
