City walls of the Butter Gate
Local name: Mury obronne i Furta Maślana
The defensive walls in Kamień Pomorski were built to protect the city and today you can admire them to a large extent. The most preserved fragment is located at the Kamienski Lagoon. In addition, fragments of fortifications can also be found at ul. Lipowa and at ul. Słowackiego, where the Museum of Stones was created at Wolińska Gate.
The walls were built in the first half of the fourteenth century, after the city was attacked by Brandenburgers and almost completely burned. Eight defensive towers belonged to the fortification team, of which only the Wolin Gate and part of the Butter Gate were preserved.
The Wolin Gate is currently the seat of the Stone Museum, which presents, among others, dinosaur fossils and skeletons of these huge reptiles. In addition, exhibitions have been enriched with a petrified nest with 33 eggs, as well as collections of minerals, ambers and meteorites.
