Natural History Museum in Cieplice
Local name: Muzeum Przyrodnicze w Cieplicach
The collection of the Cieplice museum is an exceptionally rich collection of exhibits, largely the legacy of the Schaffgotsch family. At the exhibitions you can admire the collection of insects, horns and antlers, bird eggs, herbariums, wet and dermoplastic preparations of various animal species. The collection is supplemented by historical and auxiliary collections as well as a substantial library.
The exhibitions of the Cieplice museum are the result of collections gathered by members of the family for many centuries, whose roots date back to the Middle Ages. The collection, consisting of hundreds of thousands of exhibits, was stored in one place for 200 years in accordance with the will of the last representative of Count Johann Anton. During the war, the treasures were divided and dispersed, and the rescued goods after the war went to many well-known museum facilities and to the Wawel Royal Castle.
In the nature museum in Cieplice, 40,000 natural specimens without herbariums have found their place, as well as 2,000 historical collections, several hundred auxiliary and several thousand photographs, transparencies and films. In the library you can view several thousand books and magazines. This is an amazing trip to the world of nature and culture of the region.
