Church of St. John the Baptist
Local name: Kościół św. Jana Chrzciciela
The baroque building from the 18th century is located in Cieplice. In addition to architectural values, the church has many monuments, such as the canvas of Michał Willmann decorating the main altar or the canvas of Hoffmann, one of the most eminent Baroque painters of Silesia.
By the church there is a free-standing tower from 1710 and a baroque column decorated with a sculpture of St. Florian, as well as monastery premises inhabited by the Order of the Piarist Fathers.
The first mention of the parish comes from the 15th century, when the heir to the fortress of Chojnik founded a monastery in Cieplice. Rebuilt in 1678-1684, then rebuilt as a result of fire in 1712-1714. In subsequent years, the monastery, in connection with the regulation on the abolition of this type of institution, passed into private hands. In 1812, Count Leopold Gotard Schaffgotsch, a new owner, placed the family library collections in the three wings of the monastery, while the last, southern one belonged to the parish of St. John the Baptist and served as a presbytery. Currently, this southern wing belongs to religious.
