The Fire Control Tower was built by the Germans during World War II for the needs of the largest artillery battery of the world, Schleswig-Holstein. Currently, it is one of the branches of the Museum of Coastal Defense. For the visitors have been prepared, among others, exhibits in the field of heavy artillery and military communication equipment, as well as exhibitions dedicated to Polish secret service during World War II or the working principles of the rangefinder. At the top of the tower there is a viewpoint from which visitors can enjoy the view of the sea, the foreland, and the bay.
After the occupation of Hel and the building of the artillery battery, the Germans had equipped it with a 406 mm cannons, however after the series of test shots, they were moved to France because they turned out to be too strong.The permanent exhibition of the museum also includes an exhibition dedicated to the marine writer - master mariner Olgierd Borchardt and the room in which the captain's apartment was recreated, called by him the 'seventh heaven'.Less
