St. Mary's Cathedral
Local name: Katedra Wniebowzięcia NMP
Cathedral of the Assumption is the largest and oldest sacral monument of the city. Medieval figures have survived in the interior, as well as the processional cart with the figure of Christ on the ass. From 1600 comes the Renaissance altarpiece. The carved stalls of 1617 and several years of the pulpit deserve attention. The cathedral is adjacent to a seven-storey tower made available for sightseeing.
Gorzów Cathedral was built in the 13th century as a parish church. The basement was made of granite and the basic structure - brick. The whole was complemented by a massive tower. The specificity of the church is its location in accordance with contemporary customs with an entrance facing the direction from which Christ was to come. Originally probably the temple had two side capitals. Both the church and the tower were expanded several times, and also equipped with bells and clock. For several hundred years, the temple also served Protestants.
Interesting are the massive oak doors leading to the interior of the temple. Their surface is decorated with hundreds of steel nails. The income from steel, silver plated and gilded nails purchased by the inhabitants was intended to support the Germans during the First World War. Only steel ones have survived to this day.
