Local name: Gorzowska Aleja Gwiazd
Avenue of Stars in Gorzów is a special attraction of the city located in the Old Market near the Paucksch Fountain. It is made of embedded in the sidewalk brass memory boards dedicated to local artists of many kinds from Gorzów, from painting and sculpture to architecture.
First memory board in Avenue of Stars was unveiled in 1997 and since that time, systematically, new ones have been added. Among honored individuals were painters - Jan Korcz and Andrzej Gordon, photographers - Waldemar Kućka i Jerzy Szalbierz, visual artists - Wiesław Strebejko and Bolesław Kowalski, and several architects, poets, artistic weaver and a state designer.
An interesting story related to this Avenue of Stars is a history of a Gypsy poet Papusza, who was writing poems in Romani language, discovered and promoted by Jerzy Ficowski and Julian Tuwim. The poet was rejected by the Gypsy community due to her deviating from tradition. She was given a place in the Avenue of Stars, but her fellow-citizens objected to trampling on her and enforced removal of her memory board.
