The Franciscan monastery in Głogówek is located in the center of the Old Town. Its buildings are included in the urban buildings. It is a baroque, three-wing structure surrounding a vast courtyard. It adjoins the church of St. Francis.
The Franciscans came to Głogówek in the mid-thirteenth century. Their stay in the city is marked by many hardships and turmoil. The largest of them was the Reformation, during which the monks had to leave their monastery. They returned at the beginning of the 17th century, when Jerzy Oppersdorff built a new baroque seat for them.
The three-wing building houses the seat of the order, religious postulate and Franciscan novitiate. You can enter the courtyard through a semi-circular gate. A small astronomical observatory is located in the outbuilding. Inside the building, stucco decorations have been preserved in some rooms. Unfortunately, due to the religious clause they are not available to bystanders.
