City walls

Local name: Mury miejskie

Medieval city walls served as a system of city fortifications. Right now the best preserved fragments of fortifications are: Water Gate, Kłodzko Tower and Knight's Tower.

Stone, 1 meter thick, partially attached to the buildings. The walls with three towers come from 1319. For their elevation, the King of Luxembourg in 1319 gave the city full legal independence, which gave Bystrzyca a place in the ranks of royal cities. In later years, the walls were enlarged and modernized. To this day they are preserved almost entirely, surround the whole city ring.

Fragments of the walls are often used as part of construction of previously built buildings.
