Town Hall tower

Local name: Wieża ratuszowa

The Town Hall in Biecz is one of the largest decorations of the city's square. Its 58-meter tower is well visible above the roofs of other buildings. In the past, trumpeters played calls on its top. It was then considered a symbol of the city's power. Nowadays, the tower is opened to tourists who eagerly visit the observation deck located inside.

The Town Hall was built in the 15th century. It was then an example of Gothic architecture. Portals inside are only one of the few elements which preserved to this day. The present building, which belongs to the architecture of the Renaissance, is a result of numerous renovations and reconstructions.

The best visible part of the town hall from afar is surely its tower. The observation deck on the top allows admiring the panorama of the valley of Ropa, Beskid Niski, and Pogórza Karpackie.

The tower's cellars consist of the dungeon where in the past convicts were imprisoned. Writings and calendars on its walls were carved by prisoners. There is also another cell in the upper part of the tower which today consists of an exhibition of re-creations of torture tools.
