Teutonic Castle in Barciany

Local name: Zamek Krzyżacki w Barcianach

A Teutonic castle in the Gothic style was built in the 14th century on the site of an earlier wooden stronghold. The fortress is located in a very picturesque place - on a low hill surrounded by the Liwna marshes. The original medieval walls, the gothic east wing with the entrance gate and the corner tower have survived to the present day. Despite earlier damages, the building was completely renewed and today it remains in perfect condition. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the interior of the castle.

The construction of the first brick stronghold was decided by the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Winrich von Kniprode. The castle served the Order for a long time, fulfilling its defensive function. Over the years, it was destroyed and rebuilt many times. In the 19th century, it fell into the hands of private owners, where it remained until 1945. After the war, it became the seat of the local state-owned farm.

After the political transformation, the castle was bought by a private investor. However, it did not come to the creation of a conference and hotel center and the facility remains undeveloped to this day.
