Vigeland Museum

Local name: Vigelandmuseet

The Vigeland Museum (Vigenand-meseet) in Oslo was opened in 1947, in the former home of the artist. It gathers the most important works of Vigeland, including plaster models of sculptures, which can be admired in the park named after him (part of Frognerparken). There are also busts of famous Norwegian writers.

In some rooms, original interiors, appliances and personal belongings of the sculptor are presented. Visitors can also, after prior consultation with the museum management, enter the room in which the urn with the artist's ashes was set up.

The museum's headquarters is in a classicist building erected in 1920. He served both as an apartment and a studio. Vigeland lived here until his death in 1943. Lorentz H. Ree was responsible for the design of the residence.
