The Fram museum exhibition in Oslo was dedicated to a schooner who took part in Norwegian polar expeditions led by Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen and Otto Sverdrupen. Here you can learn the fascinating history of these journeys and see the ship "Fram" with your own eyes, and even board it.
The ship's structure and interior - the work of the Scottish builder Colin Archer - have been preserved in very good condition. Schooner was built in 1982. In 1893-96 he took part in the first expedition to the North Pole, reaching the Novosibirsk Islands. Fridtjof Nansen commanded this expedition.
At the turn of the century, Otto Sverdrup sailed around Greenland and reached the island of Ellesmere. In contrast, Amundsen thanks to this extraordinary schooner reached the South Pole (he won it in 1911), ahead of Englishman Robert Scott.
