Slottsplassen, or the representative square in front of the Royal Palace in Oslo, was designed by architect Hans Linstow. You can admire the equestrian statue of the King of Sweden and Norway - Karl Johan III, its author is Brynjulf Larsen Bergslien. Important celebrations take place in the square, attended by representatives of the royal family.
On May 17, the Norwegian Constitution Day, a children's parade is organized here - kids dressed in traditional clothes carry small Norwegian flags in their hands. On the square, the king and his family welcome them from the balcony. This custom was introduced by Haakon VII.
In the southeast corner of the square there is a small guardhouse of the Royal Guard. The building was erected in the 19th century in the Swiss style. It was designed, like the square itself, by Hans Linstow.
