Norwegian Resistance Museum

The Norwegian Resistance Museum (Norges Hjemmefrontmuseum) is located within the Akershus Fortress in Oslo. The exhibition chronologically shows the fight of the Norwegians against the German occupier during World War II (1940-45). Gathered here among others documentation of the Norwegian Armed Forces Command, photos and interviews.

The exhibition covers about 25,000 images. The story of the fight against the occupier was told by members of the Norwegian Resistance, visitors can read the interviews that were conducted with them. There is also a library here.

The museum was founded in the 1960s, but it was opened to visitors only in 1970, on the 25th anniversary of Norway regaining independence. The museum is located in a historic fortification building from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries.
